Building capacities for innovation in textile ecosystems in Europe.

Project description

TEX-BREIN enhances the capabilities of public institutions and innovation intermediaries, such as clusters, in assisting companies to identify investment opportunities and formulate investment portfolios at an interregional level, for the benefit of textile ecosystems, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The key focus of the project is the circular transition of the textile industry, which supports greener production processes and minimizes textile waste. Furthermore, the project promotes the adoption of digital and advanced manufacturing solutions that aid circularity and new value chains. Reducing asymmetries between less developed and more advanced regions is achieved by mapping and benchmarking innovation hubs (e.g., textile centers in more advanced textile regions) and engaging companies in collaboration on business cases to be submitted for upcoming I3 investment funding. A portfolio of 20 business cases will be created, 3 of which will concern the design of textile recycling centers in less developed regions.

The project aim is to build and strengthen the innovation capacity of less developed EU regions in order to increase Europe’s competitiveness based on a common and integrated approach.

Specific project objectives

SO1: Increase the competitiveness and innovation of the textile sector (including textile-related sectors) through its capacity and cooperation, focusing on issues of transition to digitalization and circularity.

SO2: Map the strengths and challenges of innovation networks, especially in less developed regions.

SO3: Support and strengthen relationships between stakeholders from different European regions to enhance the participation of stakeholders from less developed regions in global value chains.

SO4: Support interregional cooperation for new investments and new business models within the supply chain in a circular, dynamic, and digitally integrated manner.

SO5: Build capacities across textile value chain stakeholders to increase cooperation, innovation, and competitiveness.

SO6: Strengthen the textile value chain from both B2C and B2B perspectives.
